ADM Volleyball vs. DC-G

By Kelsey Merschman

The rivalry between ADM and DC-G has always been heated, but the October 4th game wasn’t just for glory. The teams were fighting for Breast Cancer Awareness again this year and pink outfits and activities were everywhere.

To start out the night, volunteer ADM students served a baked potato bar to those who donated to the cause. The cafeteria was decked out in pink to go along with the theme and passers by donated to money bins as well. A silent auction allowed people to bid for Breast Cancer Awareness goody baskets and volleyballs signed by the participating teams.

Before the national anthem, each member of the teams said which cancer victims they were playing in honor of. It became evident that cancer had affected everyone in the gym in some way.

Many people agree that the match was one of ADM’s best battles to date. The girls put up a strong offense to crush the Fillies. The Filly’s back row defensive specialists were no match for the hitters on the home side.

The first match was 25-18 in favor of the Tigers. It was then that the Fillies knew they would have to battle. After the second game was won by ADM, DC-G fought back to win the third game by two.

The Tigers’ team this year has never been one to crumble under pressure. They proved their motivation to win by conquering the Fillies 25-23. A kill by ADM’s starting outside hitter Torrie Hook finished the match.

Record stats were taken during the intense match. ADM’s defensive specialist Maddie Powers had 25 digs. Allison Gottschalk led the offense with 14 kills. Megan Ticknor led from the line with 21 serves.

The Dig Pink game was a huge success at the ADM home gym this year. A big thank you goes out to Mrs. Gottschalk who put together the event.

ADM Volleyball vs. Boone

By Kelsey Merschman

On September 13th, the volleyball team boarded the bus for their most challenging game so far. The Boone Toreadors were well equipped, and the Tigers knew they would have to fight to the end to win the match.

During the first game, ADM got off to a slow start. Their passing wasn’t top notch, and the girls had a hard time hitting around Boone’s blockers. They lost by 5 against Boone’s powerful outside hitters.

The Tigers were determined not to give up. The next match they fought for every point. Haley Schepers led the Tigers to victory with her amazing serving and passing skills. The final score of game two was 29-27.

The last two games were very exciting for all spectators to watch. The Tigers pushed themselves above the Toreadors winning in four matches.

Although the team admitted to not playing their best, they never gave up. Coach Scott stated afterwards: “In all my 20 years of coaching, I have never had a team that can come back like our team this year did tonight. We never gave up.”

ADM Volleyball vs. Perry

by Kinser Haselhuhn

The ADM volleyball team traveled to Perry, September 6th, to take on the Jayettes in their 7th game of the year.

The freshman team played well, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Jayettes. The junior varsity team also struggled. The JV team ended up losing in four sets as well.

The varsity team finished off the night win. They won in three straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, and 25-21. The team didn’t play their best, but it was good enough for the victory.

ADM Volleyball vs. Saydel

by Kinser Haselhuhn

The ADM volleyball team played their first game of the season Tuesday night against the Saydel Eagles. The freshman, junior varsity, and varsity teams were all in action.

The freshman team beat the Eagles all three games, and the JV team also beat Saydel in three games. The varsity team finished off the night beating the Eagles, 25-17, 25-18, 25-15. Kelsey Merschman and Megan Ticknor both thought that the varsity team played down to Saydel’s level, but also thought the team played well for their first game of the season.

Congratulations to the ADM Varsity Volleyball team on their victory in the ADM Invitational! The varsity volleyball team was host of the Tiger Invitational Thursday. The Tigers hosted, I-35, Knoxville, Newton, Perry, and West Central Valley. The Tigers went 5-0 in the tournament, only losing one set. The Tigers had great all around performances by everyone on the team.
